Lady Gaga’s Joanne Debuting At No. 1 Is Hardly A ‘Perfect Illusion’

It was love, to the tune of 201,000 units sold in its first week: Lady Gaga‘s Joanne is officially the top album in the country, and it marks a new milestone for her, too.

Billboard reports that Joanne is one of the highest-performing albums of the year to date, and Gaga’s in good company. Joanne had the second-best first week for an album by a female artist, following Beyoncé’s Lemonade, which sold 653,000 units; it’s the fourth strongest debut of the year after Drake‘s Views (which reigns at 1.04 million units), Lemonade, and Frank Ocean‘s Blonde (which moved 276,000 units).

But the best part? Joanne is Gaga’s fourth album to debut at No. 1 — ARTPOP, Born This Way, and her collaboration with Tony Bennett, Cheek to Cheek, came before it — which makes her the only female artist to hit that mark so far this decade.

Congrats to Gaga — and the Joanne crew — on a huge achievement after a huge month of surprise shows and major performances.

DON’T COMPARE LADY GAGA TO MADONNA (OR ANYONE ELSE), BECAUSE SHE SAYS SO
