Ryan Gosling’s Directorial Debut Won’t Screen In The U.S.

Bad news for any Ryan Gosling fans who were hoping to catch a screening of the actor’s directorial debut: “Lost River” is coming never to a theater near you, as Warner Bros. has decided to forgo a big-screen release for the film.

According to Variety, the movie — in which Gosling stayed behind the camera, directing an all-star cast that included Christina Hendricks, Eva Mendes, Matt Smith, and Saoirse Ronan — will instead go straight to video-on-demand this spring, just about a year after it debuted at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival. But while Ryan Gosling is no doubt disappointed that his first effort as an auteur won’t get a big cinematic run in the States, we’ve put together a few comforting reasons why he shouldn’t be too upset.

  1. ukelele

So what if directing isn’t the Gos’s greatest strength? He’s still the best thoughtful ukelele player we’ve ever seen.

  2. dumbass

It’s not bad to remind the public that you’re a fallible human every once in awhile.

  3. abs

Even if Ryan Gosling never starred in or directed another film, his Best Shirtless Moment legacy will live on, forever.

  4. thinking

“Lost River”? What “Lost River”? This is the face of a man who has seventeen more ideas for films he’d like to direct, each more brilliant than the last.
